In May we have our last event for the season, and we want to explore an area of shakuhachi music we have not explored that much within the ESS. So, on 17. May we will welcome Seimo Yamaguchi to introduce and teach us his favourite anime and movie tunes. Cosplay is an option of course. 🙂
Seimo will also demonstrate the use of a 7-hole shakuhachi for this type of repertoire. Teaching though will be done on the traditional 5-hole shakuhachi.
Seimo Yamaguchi
After working as a reggae DJ, Seimo moved to New York, and having been exposed there to many different music and ideas, when he returned to Japan he discovered anew his Japanese culture and heitage. In search of his own originality he entered Japanese music school and was taught the shakuhachi and shinobue flute by the headmaster of the school and was given the name ‘Seimo’ in 2011.
Since then, he has been active as a solo artist, performing at the big festival “ArtRock2011” in France, “FIFA women’s world cup events” in Germany, “Nippon connection”, “Japanfest2016″, ” Main Matsuri 2018, 2019″ and others. He has also toured France and Germany alone, and performed in Africa, expanding his activities not only in Japan but also overseas, and gaining high acclaim.
Currently, together with pianist Toshiharu Kotaki, he has begun performing as (piano/shakuhachi) duo INFINITY, challenging the infinite possibilities of the piano and shakuhachi.
